Trainees are the future of our firm. The high-quality training, coaching and mentoring we offer is aimed at making you the best associate – and ultimately partner – you can be.

Beyond the training contract

The end of your training contract doesn’t mean the end of your training. We aim to continue to develop your skills as you grow through the firm, and our ‘career milestones’ framework starts where your training contract left off. This transparent, equality-focused system means our lawyers progress based on their performance rather than how long they’ve been here.

You’ll take on more responsibility as you gain more experience so you’ll keep learning throughout your career.

Staying at Freshfields

The vast majority of our trainees qualify into the firm. If you’re one of them, you’ll receive a salary of £100,000 as a newly qualified associate.

You’ll get the chance to take four weeks’ unpaid leave between ending your training contract and starting as a newly qualified associate – a very popular choice!

And if you do decide to leave at some point, the experience you’ll have gained at Freshfields will open doors elsewhere, as the stories at our Freshfields Alumni Network show.
