Law and Fintech – A Freshfields virtual experience

In this programme, adapted from real Freshfields work, our (fictitious) client wants to buy a crypto asset business. You will help them, working through five modules that cover a Freshfields junior lawyer’s typical responsibilities. The Freshfields virtual experience is uniquely comprehensive, offering multiple perspectives of a single interesting matter from different practices that reflect our full-service offering.  By undertaking this programme you will:

  1. carry out a due diligence exercise;
  2. advise on a Share Purchase Agreement;
  3. consider the antitrust aspects of the transaction;
  4. assist your client with their financial services regulatory concerns; and
  5. help your client manage a dispute.

The modules should take around an hour to complete, but there is no time limit and you can take as long as you want. Full instructions are also provided.

You’ll be given a score at the end of each module, and a certificate of completion signed by a Freshfields partner. Please don’t take it too seriously; we don’t use this as a test and we won’t crosscheck your results if you choose to apply to Freshfields. Be sure to mention that you did our virtual learning experience in your application!

Our summer vacation schemes and workshops are a great way to get to know Freshfields better. You can also find out more about our focus on diversity and inclusion, including the Stephen Lawrence Scholarship scheme (which has over 70 participating universities in the UK). Please contact us if you’d like to know more about programmes you might be eligible for.

Launch into Law – explore a career in commercial law

Our Launch into Law Virtual Experience Programme is a free five-hour simulation of the day-to-day work of a Freshfields lawyer. With zero barriers to entry, the programme is aimed at secondary school-level emerging talent interested in exploring a career in commercial law.

You will undertake five hypothetical tasks covering scenarios a Freshfields junior solicitor might encounter in day-to-day work. The simulation will help you gain practical skills and experience. Programmes are self-paced so you can learn on your own time.

There are five modules and during the programme you will:

  1. prepare a presentation on diversity and inclusion;
  2. give an ‘elevator pitch’ to a client;
  3. research the Bribery Act to answer a client’s questions;
  4. explain your client’s potential liability; and
  5. act as mediator to negotiate a settlement to a dispute.

The programme is introduced by Annette Byron, Freshfields’ Partner for Social Mobility. Complete the programme and you will get a certificate signed by Annette, which you can share on your social media and CV. While we don’t use this programme as a test, be sure to mention that you did our virtual learning experience in your application!
