Virtual Work Experience

Freshfields is a fast-paced and innovative 21st-century firm at the forefront of technology.

I have already been involved in very high-profile tech-focused work and cross-border, specialist mandates.

In my first seat I worked on a pro bono case that reached the Supreme court.

We helped the AIRE Centre achieve a ruling that clarifies the law governing the identification and treatment of victims of trafficking and modern slavery.

I think the eight-seat training contract is great from a trainee perspective.

You can see a lot of practice areas before deciding which area suits you best. You can also extend some seats to six months which gives you added flexibility and control of your career.

Hard work is recognised here.

When you go the extra mile, partners and associates will show appreciation for your contribution to the team.

You can bring your full self to work here.

I’d spent some time here already on my vacation scheme and with the Freshfields Stephen Lawrence Scholarship so I was familiar with the type of work the firm did. However, when I joined as a trainee, I was honestly surprised by how personable people were. It’s easy to build relationships, not just with fellow trainees, but also with associates, partners and support staff.

I’d advise anyone considering Freshfields not to discount yourself.

Forget any misconceptions about not ‘fitting in’. We are working towards being more diverse and people from non-traditional backgrounds can thrive here.

Freshfields in three words?

Stimulating, collaborative, innovative.

What does Freshfields expect of trainees?

Freshfields expects enthusiasm. You’re not expected to arrive with a detailed knowledge of the intricacies of legal practice. However, you do need a desire to learn and the ability to think forward.

What can trainees expect of Freshfields?

At Freshfields, you can expect to work with smart, interesting people on complex, international matters. You will be challenged, including encountering new concepts, and rapidly building an understanding of different areas of law and industries.

Pro bono

We act free of charge for clients ranging from individual asylum seekers to some of the world’s biggest charities.

Virtual Interviews

The safety of you and our colleagues is our top priority. For that reason, our assessment centres will take place in a virtual format, via Microsoft Teams, in 2020 and early 2021. We will continue to assess the situation over the rest of that year.
