Working at Freshfields has challenged my ideas of the Magic Circle archetype.

You realise that everyone has their own unique story, once you get a chance to talk to the people here. I now know that being part of a high-achieving organisation like this is definitely possible. If you strive and work hard then the sky is the limit.

I can feel myself developing as a person.

In the majority of my seats so far, I have worked on current, exciting mandates. I have been involved in a case that went to the Supreme Court; a confidential M&A deal, before and after it went public; and matters concerning a formal court process with a prestigious insurance company and a top retailer. There’s a real pride to being part of a team working on high-profile work which has a tangible impact.

There are really supportive people here.

I feel like people are rooting for me to succeed – the whole process here is set up for you to learn from the best lawyers and leaders in their respective industries.

What does Freshfields expect of trainees?

To give your all. Freshfields is big on feedback – it might not always be positive but it will inevitably help you to become a better lawyer and person in general. As a trainee, you need to be open and receptive to that and always look to better yourself.

What can trainees expect of Freshfields?

A challenging environment, which is not as bad as it sounds. You need to prove yourself – put your hand up for things and you will be given responsibility, execute the task well and you will be given more responsibility. The opportunities are endless.

Freshfields in three words?

Eye-opening, challenging, opportunity.
