The best thing about Freshfields is the people.
When I get asked why I joined and why I’m still here after 16 years, I always give the same answer – the people. I get to work with a group of completely inspirational, collegiate, ambitious people who want to work on the most challenging global transactions, but also have fun along the way. I feel incredibly privileged to have such utterly brilliant colleagues.
We strive to get the work–life balance right.
We all work hard but we also try to ensure everyone has a life outside of work – and that is very important in sustaining a long career. I have two children and so my personal life is mainly spent doing things with them. That’s very important to me.
A trainee’s experience here is very much what you make it.
You should grab every single opportunity, throw yourself in the deep end and seek out challenges. You will reap the rewards of the effort you put in. And it isn’t just about the work – we have a whole range of sports and social clubs and other initiatives like our women’s network, innovation hub and pro bono programme.
I advise everyone thinking about a career in corporate law to pick a firm where you’ll be happy.
It can be daunting making big decisions about your future. When choosing a firm you need to think as much about the culture and work environment as well as the quality of training. For me, Freshfields ticked all those boxes.
